The maximum memory on NeXT Cube 68040 25MHz motherboards is 64MB RAM = 16 slots = sets of 4 * 4MB 30-pin Simms
Install in sets of 4*4MB with 16 SIMM slots available = 16*4MB = 64.
NeXT Mono Stations have 8 slots 8 * 4 = 32 MB and the maximum is 32 MB RAM for NeXTSTATIONs. Yes, this RAM will work!
The 5th expansion slot on the motherboard is for a DSP expansion chip.
We pre-test all of our RAM to ensure it is 100% NeXT compatible and will not cause memory errors or damage the motherboard.
If your motherboard shows Error #2 or other errors, eBay will make us break links, so improvise, add ws .blackholeinc.com/docs/; I have created searchable PDF documents of many original NeXT service manuals and troubleshooting guides for you! Often errors are due to faulty or incompatible memory sticks or defective capacitors or other components on the motherboard. Installing the wrong RAM can smoke a motherboard, I’ve literally seen one catch fire!
We have enough NeXT gear in stock for you to let us know if you have an odd NeXT motherboard or BIOS chip revision and we can test the RAM here first with an identical motherboard to make sure it works . The purchase is now for 4 * 4MB = 16MB. To maximize your board to 64MB, please order 4 sets of 16MB or for a NeXT Station, 2 sets of 16MB.
You can also mix different sticks in sets of 4, for example if you have 4*1MB = 4, you can add 4*4MB for a total of 20MB.
